It was a moonlight sonata of madness. The entire event that was to happen was crazy. Ancient Quincy documents that told tales of legendary beasts that they could create? What blasphemy was this? Quincy were destroyers. Every part about them was geared towards total annihilation. They had been very nearly wiped out because they did not save the souls of monsters. They took the very molecules that built something, reshaped it, and used it as a weapon in order to kill. Why? Because they were destroyers!

Since when could they create as well? Sure, they had the ability to create silver and glass, but that was simple alchemy. This was much more complex. They even had to sacrifice their own power to do so. It was almost exactly like giving birth. A sacrifice of self, and then a freak chain of events happened. Boom. Life was made. It sounded simple in concept, but Grimm doubted it was quite that easy. Besides, where was he even going to get the reishi he needed here on earth? Hueco Mundo or Soul Society would have been a much better place to even attempt this, considering that’s where a seriously high concentration of reishi was.

Nevertheless, it had to be possible on Earth. Quincy weren’t native to those places. They did not have regular access to it, either. In fact, Uryu Ishida was probably the only Quincy to ever enter both. So instead, Grimm had to make do. He did something that went completely against his personal beliefs. He summoned countless Hollow in order to steal their bodies. It wasn’t an easy task. In order to remove the possibility of innocent life being injured, he formed a spirit platform and skated along wind currents until he reached the ocean. Then, he moved to the exact center. Away from all boat and airplane paths, Grimm could begin phase two of his plan.

A small bag had been tossed into the air. The felt bag was brownish in color, and had the Quincy logo stamped on the outside. Sealed with a special reishi cord that could only be removed by a Quincy’s natural ability to absorb reishi, it would have been impossible for anyone but a Quincy to open it. Drawing in the reishi from the bag’s cord, he removed the string and tossed the bag into the air. A simple stab from a flaming seele shneider blade incinerated the chalk-like contents of the bag.

And then Hell opened up on Earth. A crack the size of the horizon opened up in the sky, and a flood of Hollow poured from the rent. It was like a black rain. Taking a deep breath, Grimm prayed for forgiveness. His signature bow had been summoned, and as each Hollow fell from the sky, an arrow flew to meet it. A black army disappeared in the sun’s glow as arrow after arrow eliminated them from existence. The more he killed the more energy he took in. Tears began to fall from his face as the countless lives were sacrificed in order to create one.

But he needed this life. It was not an act of selfish recklessness. Although he refused to admit it out loud, Grimm knew his power was needed. Sometimes, mercy wasn’t an option. Occasionally, he had to let his fire loose and rain down Hell upon his enemies. Unfortunately, sometimes his Hell wasn’t enough. The flames of justice occasionally required a tub of gasoline on top of it.

Finally, every Hollow had been slain. Gillians, Adjuchas, basic Hollow… It did not matter what they were. Grimm slaughtered them all. Reishi filled the air around him. Was it worth it? It had to be! There was no other option. Tears continued to fall down Grimm’s paled flesh and plummet into the ocean. Fingers bled from the sheer number times he pulled back the string of his bow that only appeared when he formed an arrow. It too joined the ocean. A sacrifice of tear and blood for what was to come, may the ocean bless it.

Dropping to the platform, Grimm hovered several hundred feet above the ocean. Crossing his legs, he held his hands in his lap after dismissing his bow. Closing eyes, the yellow irises ceased to gaze upon the earth. Blackness greeted him. In front of him, air shimmered as his reiatsu rose in order to collect the gaping quantity of reishi he had killed so many for. The staggering amount of energy that began to pool in front of him, each reishi particle integrated with his reiatsu, burst into flame due to intensity. It was a ball of fire so bright that Grimm could see it through his eye lids.

Taking a deep breath, he inhaled slowly and exhaled even slower. The Quincy could feel his pulse booming in his ears. Concentrating on what he was about to do, he tried to relax every muscle in his body.

Nearly an hour had passed since Grimm began his meditation. The ball of fire that he had concentrated during the time was so intense that the coloring had shifted from a simple orange to a blazing white. Thankfully, the Quincy had gotten used to the color. The last thing he needed was blindness. Unfortunately, nothing had progressed since then. All he had managed to do was amass the appropriate reishi he needed. Now he needed blueprints in order to finish the beast. The doctrines stated that he needed to allow his subconscious entry to the forefront of his body. They said he needed to just let it happen.

But how do you just let life happen? This wasn't like forgetting a condom in the heat of the moment. This was purposely trying to make something happen by accident. It was a paradox on its own. This was a waste of time. Instead of this, he should be protecting people. If he had slaughtered hundreds of thousands of hollow for nothing, he was going to be so full of. In fact, the moment he even began to think this, he could feel his body tense up in preperation for the anger. Skin bristled, muscles twitched, joints flexed.

In response to his anger, the fire flared wildly. It lost a bit of it's intensity in exchange for growth. The flames scaled to great lengths, nearly engulfing Grimm in the process. Thankfully, he was immune to his own flames, and this certainly counted. Unfortunately, that didn't make it easier to meditate in the bristling heat. He needed to reign in his anger and focus, otherwise nothing was happening and this HAD been a waste of time.

Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Shrinking, the fire returned to its regular size and color. Well done A voice murmured in his mind, and for a moment, Grimm simply thought he had congratulated himself. Smiling with reassurance, he opened his eyes. The whiteness that greeted him was unreal. Staring deep into the flames, he could feel his eyes begin to dry out. Ignoring it, he would deal with that later. For now, he had to concentrate in order to get this done.

But can you keep calm? The voice returned again. This time, Grimm had no doubts that it hadn't been him that said it. Who's there? Ordering the speaker reveal themselves, Grimm nearly looked away from the core of the fire. Nearly. He knew that would completely destroy everything he had worked towards. It was damn-near suicide. He could feel his body disappearing around him. All that would remain when he was finished was the fire.

I am you. Or rather, I was you. I was part of you. If you succeed in these trials, I will be... me. Yes. I would rather much enjoy that. Don't let me go back into you, Grimm. Keep going. Strive for success. Let me live. This time, Grimm noticed it. The fire pulsed when the voice spoke. He understood. His Kind was talking. What do I do? Asking for assistance, the Quincy decided that he would enjoy it if this creature came into existence. He could feel it now, bathing him in warmth and happiness.

His Kind. His child. The pride of a father swelled inside of him like a great flame coming to fruition.
