Nobility were funny in that a lot of their very existence resided in a constant state of paranoia. Tainosuke knew this all too well. For generations his family catered to them as attendants. With joining the Third Division, the man honestly thought his time of asskissing was going to be over. Well, word got out how good he was at pharmacology and medicine. Next thing he knew, he was one of the first on call to tend to a Noble’s injury or illness. Most would see this as an honor and privilege. It was guaranteed employment and something that required a lot of trust to do. But, the elite were sometimes stupid. The amount of times he was called due to a minor cold or a sprained ankle was ridiculous. He would rather be spending his time concocting the next revolutionary cure or developing antigens to a potent virus.

Yet, here he was on his way back towards his barracks after giving an antacid to some head of a lesser house after they thought someone had tried to poison them. Nope. It was just indigestion from a highly acidic meal they had for lunch. Imagine complaining about an upset stomach after eating an entire bowl of spicy kimchi? Guess the thought never occurred to them.

“They really don’t pay me enough for this,” muttered the man to himself as he detoured off the main road, veering his direction towards a small bar. He wasn’t on the clock anymore, so who would care if he had a small glass (or three) of sake? With some kan handed over to the bartender, Tainosuke soon had some plum-flavored alcoholic beverage set in front of him. When you had to deal with patients like his, some self medication was often required. Luckily for him, the bartenders knew him by name and his default order. Or maybe he had a problem and visited this establishment way too frequently.

Seiji Shirogane

Seiji whistled to himself with impressive levels of skill as he strolled into the small bar and plopped down on a stool. "A bottle of umeshu please." The young man slid the appropriate amount of kan over to the bartender who scooped the money up with practiced ease and rummaged around before returning with a bottle of plum wine and a glass. With a pleased smile, Seiji popped open the bottle and poured himself a glass. Taking a swig of the cool, sweet liquid the now-3rd Seat took a moment to appreciate the ups and downs of life.

It was at that moment the dark-haired man's sleepy gaze first noticed the other proprietor at the bar. The man looked quite exhausted. Definitely here to drown his troubles, just based on his expression. Well, luckily for him Seiji had been invited out to drinks with Captain Okami, who happened to be sitting next to him at this very moment. Calling out to the other man, Seiji let out a soft yawn. "Long day?"

Sitting at a bar with his Third Seat, nursing an entire bottle of umeshu with a lopsided grin was one Okami Shiba. The head of one of the Four Great Noble Houses was enjoying the flavors of his drink, the sweet and tart blending together in a delicious harmony that left nothing to the imagination. His zanpakuto leaned against the bar next to him, and the haori that marked him as the Captain of the Eighth Division had been conspicuously left in his office so as to go incognito.

He and his now-subordinate had been discussing the finer points of the Training Camp From Hell: Let's All Suffer Together! (Featuring: A Perfectly Normal Amount Of Badgers.) when the door opened and another Shinigami slumped in. A pair of silver eyes flicked over in the direction of the man. Not really recognizing him, but knowing the look on his face and the slump to his demeanor from personal experience, the Shiba let Seiji call over to him before answering for him. "Seems like it. Come on over here, hang out with us!"

The particular bar they were at was one generally frequented by Shinigami of most ranks, known for good booze and a less-than-uptight atmosphere. Since there were plenty of people here enjoying the food and company, the reiatsu in the air was nice and thick. Perfect for hiding the random Captain, and great for meeting new people.

It appeared that no matter what he could do, Tainosuke was unable to escape the existence of nobility. Even in this run-down dive of a bar, the head of the Shiba sat proud and center. As his eye shifted in the pair’s direction, even his stoic disposition expressed a “Really?” This was the last place he expected to see a noble in. Was the man going to have to hunt down a new spot for relaxation? Frankly it would be hard to find another place that served this kind of rice wine at such an affordable rate. But that was a task for another day it seemed. Until then, guess he’d have to entertain another high-class individual and his sleepy companion. “It always is a long day when it comes to my line of work. Shame that I didn’t even sign up for it. I was forced to volunteer.”

Not wanting to be completely rude, that male pushed himself upright, grabbed his drink, and shifted a few chairs down to sit next to the other shinigami. He knew exactly who Shiba Okami was even if the two had never been properly introduced or interacted. The Hasegawa tended to the Great Four Houses quite frequently. And now he would do the same in his own niche way.

“Hasegawa Tainosuke, Third Seat of the Third Division,” he stated, head shifting into a slight bow. He wore his standard shihakusho with an added white haori jacket. This marked him as a medical professional, something normally not seen outside of the Fourth Division. His zanpakuto was not on his person. Instead, a simple bag full of medicinal supplies hung from his side. Reaching into it, he pulled out a small pill bottle and set it in-between the two. “Make sure this one, he said gesturing towards the Captain, “takes this before he goes to bed. I’d prefer not to have to make a house call in the morning because he woke up with a headache.” It was a small bottle of hangover preventing medication of his own design. Definitely better than some of the crap they sold at your basic Seireitei pharmacy.

Seiji Shirogane

The other guy at the bar that Seiji and Captain Okami had called out to shuffled over with all the exasperation of an introvert being dragged out of their little hidey-hole. He then promptly introduced himself as Hasegawa Tainosuke. Seiji returned the slight bow of the head with one of his own. "Seiji Shirogane, Third Seat of the Eighth Division." Having the other Third Seat suddenly place the bottle of medicine in front of him with explicit instructions had Seiji turning to look at Captain Okami with a confused expression that quickly morphed into a knowing grin. A sort of "who gon' tell 'em chat?" Type of deal. Seiji politely took the bottle and tucked it into his robes with a chuckle.

"The thoughtfulness is appreciated," Seiji said while leaving out the fact that he knew for a fact Captain Okami wouldn't need it. Of course, he could take it for himself but something told Seiji that road involved a lot of badgers for some strange reason. "In any case, you said you were voluntold for something today, right? How shit did that go, huh?"

Oh, a member of the Hasegawa family, then? That explained the politeness, the tired exasperation at seeing a noble, and the long hours. Okami himself had never used the services of the attendant family, but he knew that a few of the elders of his Clan had done so, if only because they were bedridden due to illness and old age at the time. The man seemed to be a medical professional, if the white coat and the bottle of pills offered with a healthy dose of a respectable and understandable gruffness were anything to go by. Seiji's reaction was priceless, and the Shiba couldn't help but chuckle into his bottle as he took another deep pull. "That's very generous of you. I'll make sure not to be another house call tomorrow morning."

That was, if he were honest, a perfectly easy promise to keep. Seiji had once joked that his Captain had the hardest-working liver in the Seireitei, and while Okami wasn't an alcoholic by any stretch of the imagination he certainly enjoyed going out with friends and having fun. Inevitably, the noble was the one closing out tabs and delivering people home before crashing himself, and waking up perfectly fine the next day.

At the question of how his latest visit went, however, the Shiba's silver eyes began to almost glow with mischief and he turned to pay attention to the situation fully. "Oh, do tell! I love stories about the idiocy behind the scenes, and it's always good to know about."

What can he say? It was part of Okami's job to be in the know, and this sounded like it'd be hilarious.
